TRAI Unveils New Guidelines for 2G Users: Affordable Recharges and Extended Validity

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced new guidelines aimed at benefiting millions of 2G users across the country. These updated regulations are designed to make mobile services more affordable and accessible, especially for those who rely on basic services like voice calls and SMS.

Under the new rules, major telecom companies are required to offer top-up vouchers starting at ten rupees. This move is expected to provide much-needed relief to users who often struggle with expensive recharge plans that include unnecessary data bundles. Additionally, TRAI has allowed operators to issue top-up vouchers of any value, making it more flexible for users.

One of the most significant changes is the extension of the validity of Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) from a few months to a full 365 days. This means that users can now enjoy long-term, cost-effective recharge options, ensuring they stay connected without frequent recharges.

Telecom operators have also been instructed to create voice and SMS-only plans tailored specifically for 2G feature phone users who do not require internet services. This will eliminate the need for users to pay for bundled data plans that they do not use.

The implementation of these guidelines is expected to bring much-needed relief to millions of users, enabling access to basic mobile services at pocket-friendly rates. TRAI’s latest amendments highlight its commitment to balancing consumer interests with industry standards.
