A special CBI court in Bengaluru has ordered the transfer of all confiscated assets of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to the Tamil Nadu government. This ruling follows the Karnataka High Court’s dismissal of a plea by Jayalalithaa’s niece and nephew, J Deepa and J Deepak, who had claimed her properties as legal heirs.
The assets include Veda Nilayam, Jayalalithaa’s iconic residence in Chennai’s Poes Garden, along with multiple land parcels, bank deposits, gold jewellery, and other valuables. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the legal battle over her estate.
The Tamil Nadu government welcomed the court’s decision, stating that it honours Jayalalithaa’s contributions and ensures proper management of her properties. Plans are underway to convert Veda Nilayam into a memorial, allowing citizens to pay their respects to the former Chief Minister.
This ruling closes a prolonged legal dispute between Jayalalithaa’s relatives and the state, paving the way for the government to take control of her assets and utilize them for public benefit.
For many in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa remains a beloved leader whose impact on the state’s development is still felt today. The transfer of her properties to the state is seen as a fitting tribute to her enduring legacy.
