In an unusual turn of events, Bengaluru Police have arrested a thief who constructed a Rs 3 crore house for his girlfriend using stolen money. The thief, identified as Panchakshari Swamy from Solapur, Maharashtra, has a long history of criminal activities spanning several states, including Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
Swamy, 37, began his criminal activities at the tender age of 15 in 2003. Over the years, he turned professional, amassing significant wealth through house thefts. His extravagant lifestyle included a romantic relationship with a well-known Bollywood actress in 2014-15, during which he lavished her with expensive gifts, including an aquarium worth Rs 22 lakh. However, his luck ran out in 2016 when he was arrested by Gujarat Police and sentenced to six years in prison. After his release in 2024, he resumed his criminal activities in Bengaluru.
On January 9, Swamy committed his latest crime by robbing a house in Bengaluru’s Madivala locality. Acting on intelligence, the police tracked him down and arrested him near the Madivala market area. During interrogation, Swamy confessed to multiple crimes in Bengaluru and revealed that he operated with an associate. The police recovered an iron rod and a fire gun, which he used to melt stolen gold and convert it into gold biscuits.
Swamy admitted to storing all the gold and silver biscuits made from stolen jewellery at his residence in Solapur. The authorities confiscated 181 grams of gold biscuits and 333 grams of silver articles, valued at approximately Rs 12.25 lakh. The case was cracked by a diligent team led by DCP (Northeast) Sarah Fathima, Madivala ACP Laxminarayana K.C., and Inspector Mohammad M.A. of Madivala police station.
The arrest of Panchakshari Swamy underscores the efforts of Bengaluru Police in combating organized crime and ensuring community safety. As investigations continue, authorities are working to uncover more details about Swamy’s criminal network and recover additional stolen property.
