The DMK Legal Conference 2025 took place on January 18 at St. George’s Anglo Indian School in Chennai, bringing together legal experts, policymakers, and political leaders. The event, inaugurated by DMK General Secretary and Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, was presided over by Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin, who addressed key concerns surrounding India’s federal and democratic framework.
A major focus of the conference was the “One Nation, One Election” proposal, which has sparked nationwide debate. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi, and veteran journalist N. Ram shared their perspectives during a dedicated panel discussion. Kapil Sibal strongly criticized the proposal, asserting that it undermines the federal structure and compromises the autonomy of states. Similarly, S.Y. Quraishi dismissed claims that the initiative would eliminate policy paralysis, calling such arguments unfounded.
The event also featured discussions on “Dravidam and Economic Transformation,” showcasing the DMK’s vision for regional progress and inclusive governance. The conference emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and promoting balanced development across states.
The DMK Legal Conference 2025 not only addressed pressing national issues but also reinforced the party’s commitment to upholding constitutional principles and empowering regional voices.
