In a surprising case of fraud, an SBI employee from the Kethanur branch in Palladam, Tamil Nadu, is accused of stealing gold worth 8 crore. B. Sekar, a cash officer, allegedly misappropriated gold over five years, from 2017 to 2022.
The fraudulent activity was discovered when the branch manager, K. Sudhadevi, noticed discrepancies while reviewing CCTV footage. It was found that Sekar had been cutting pieces of gold jewellery and secretly taking them home.
This case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Madras High Court in August 2024 to ensure a thorough investigation.
